Things To Watch Right Now- August 2018

13 Reasons Why- Series 2

This series much like its predecessor had lots of controversy surrounding it. I've previously said whilst, for me, the first series tackled the fall out of someone committing suicide well. I don't feel like it ever really covered mental health in general all that well.
This series I had mixed feelings about as well. I feel like they tackled mental health in a better light, not necessarily Hannah's character but other characters from the fall out of her death.
At some points I did feel like they were throwing in controversial topics for the sake of it and I had heard a lot of bad press about 'that' scene towards the end of the series.
Which in my opinion isn't as bad as everyone made it out to be, it is still pretty bad but no worse than Hannah's suicide from the first series but I can understand and respect how it can be really triggering for someone. I thought that the way it had been described in the media that it had just been thrown in. But that scene is one that I felt actually fitted the storyline well, despite it being extremely graphic.

And then there's the last episode. The last episode, without any spoilers is exactly why I love 13 Reasons Why as a series. Two scenes made me cry like an absolute baby to the point I was in the foetal position for 10 minutes afterwards. A really tough watch at times but that's exactly what that show is about and I think some critics miss the point.
If you liked the first series I would definitely recommend watching it.

RuPaul's Drag Race
I was constantly told by friends, I would love RuPaul's Drag Race; as a big fan of America's Next Top Model, Drag Queens and being fierce. And it may have taken me till season 10, but I'm absolutely obsessed to the point where I'm now hunting down all season 10's Queens for drag nights in the UK and as I'm getting ready for work I hear my own monologue, "Today I'm serving you office worker chic and I'm loving it".

Queer Eye
"Yes honey", in my best Jonathan voice. This show is fab. I remember watching the original show when it was on Living Tv (whoooo) and I admit I was sceptical about this series. I'm not one for like make over shows at all and I didn't give in to the first series's hype, instead I waited for the second series to come around before finally giving it a go. I can only describe Queer Eye as the show I never knew that I needed. It's not just a make over show, it covers deep topics and issues and each episode has made me cry without fail. Such a beautiful show and some episodes are really relatable. We've all been that person down on their luck and struggling with self confidence. My dream is one day the Fab 5 come and make my life over.

The Jinx
For all those who love a good docu-murder-series I highly recommend The Jinx. I watched The Staircase, another murder documentary series on Netflix about a man who's wife is found at the bottom of a staircase. He claims she fell after a few too many wines but the autopsy results say something different. As a series it's ok, but man it drags out and then I was told that I should watch The Jinx because its better and it is.
It follows real estate heir Robert Durst, an accused murderer and just a bizarre character. The series investigates the unsolved 1982 disappearance of Durst's wife Kathie, as well as other individuals in Robert's life. This is probably the best docu-murder-series I've ever watched and has an incredible ending.

The Greatest Showman

I recently watched The Greatest Showman after it was recommended to me and I really fell in love with it. I'm not usually the biggest musical fan but this holds a special little place in my heart. So much I cried throughout the majority of it, lol. It's not even a sad film. I was just quite emotional that day I guess.
The film is inspired by the story of P. T. Barnum's creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus and the lives of its star attractions staring Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zendaya and Zac Efron. It's a really beautiful film about being different and finding a place to fit in which I guess we can all relate to at some time.
